Tournament on Sunday!

This Sunday, November 7th, 2010 from 10:45am-4pm, our school will be competing in a culminating tournament at Glover Field in Pelham, NY. Below there are directions and things to bring for the long day. Elementary team uniforms are in route and should be handed out on Friday. In case of any delays, the students will receive them the day of the tournament and wear them over their outfit. Middle school players must wear their school gym shirt and their choice of comfortable, yet appropriate pants. The games will be played on grass fields so the use of cleats will be permitted, but sneakers will suffice. Let motivate and help The Holliswood School bring home some hardware!

Directions:
By Car (there is plenty of parking by Glover Field)

Northbound Directions:
Hutchinson River Parkway north to Exit 9 (Wolf's Lane). Turn right onto Wolf's Lane, proceed to traffic light and make a right onto Colonial Avenue (becomes Sandford Boulevard). Immediately past the next traffic light (at the entrance to the Parkway), make a left into the Glover Field complex, marked by a sign. Immediately after entering complex, stay to the left, and proceed up onto the service road. Take service road to end, passing the Parkway on the left and playing fields on the right. The field is to the right, behind the bleachers and surrounded by a running track.

by Mass Transit
Take a Metro-North New Haven Line train to Pelham train station. Trains depart from Grand Central Terminal and from 125th Street and Park Avenue above ground train station. Once at Pelham station, Pelham rec and Pelham parents will be shuttling teams to the field.

What to Bring
To ensure a safe experience, each child should bring:
-Small lunch/light snack.
-A water bottle/sports drink.
-A bag to carry all items in.
-Athletic clothing and shoes. Cleats are suggested, as the surface is natural grass.
-A Hat.-Jacket/warm clothing/gloves/tracksuit/rain jacket in case of inclement or cold weather (there is not much cover at the field)

2010 Mayor's Cup results

Congratulations to both Holliswood Rugby teams for their high-level of Rugby that they exhibited this past weekend on Randall's Island during Play Rugby USA's 3rd Annual Mayor's Cup Rugby Festival. After going undefeated in pool play, the Holliswood Middle School team placed in the highest bracket in contention for the Mayor's Cup. Unfortunately, after a grueling match against the team representing France, where we both pushed the game to sudden death after a 2-2 tie at the end of regular time, the Middle School lost 3-2 in this quarterfinals match.

The Holliswood Elementary team are the proud owners of the Runners Up plaque in the Cup finals. This was the Elementary team's first year competing in the Mayor's Cup and placed very well considering only 3 practices prior to this event! Once again, as did the Middle School team, 3-2 was the final score of the Elementary finals. After a very competitive game played by both teams, (Holliswood representing USA and Epiphany representing Ireland) the game was also tied at the end of regular time, but won by Ireland in sudden death extra time.

A special honorable mention to all the graduating Middle School players that will be graduating this year, as well as 5th graders that will be moving on to other schools, your presence will be missed and the Holliswood School appreciates your fine representation of our school in all of the Rugby events throughout the past 3 years. Also, the Holliswood School hopes that you continue your participation in Rugby in high school and the future.

Holliswood Rugby Team Plate Champions

After three years of hard work, the Holliswood middle school Rugby team finally brings home some hardware! Competing in two tournaments this weekend, March 7th, the team was victorious at last. In past tournaments, they had finished high in playoff brackets, but were not able to get past some tough competition. That trend ended Sunday. The team was able to get past a rocky first match to persevere and win their playoff bracket in not just one, but two tournaments! Congratulations to our ruggers, and much more success in the future. Post a comment to show your support.
